Sports & Clubs

Our Vision as a Sports Department is: To Achieve Sporting Excellence, Passion and Competence on the Sports Field whilst promoting Christian Values such as Tolerance, Friendship, FairPlay, Love and Respect for all.

Currently the Sports Department is comprised of two full time members, namely the Sports Master Mr Tafadzwa Jesseniah and his assistant Mrs Gabrielle Stoddart. MCS Teachers form a team of TICs (Teachers In Charge) of the various Sporting Disciplines. Very recently we have started engaging volunteer Sports Coaches (a group which includes mainly past pupils and other competent Sports Coaches).

Sporting Disciplines Currently being offered by MCS include:

  • Rugby
  • Hockey
  • Cricket
  • Swimming
  • Athletics
  • Netball
  • Tennis
  • Cross Country

Sport Clubs Include:

  • Boys and Girls Soccer
  • Ballet
  • Gymnastics for Infants
  • Ball Skills for Infants
  • Junior Golf for Boys and Girls
  • Chess
  • Discipleship
  • Drama
  • Art and Crafts
Clubs are voluntary, however every child is encouraged to participate in at least one.

Junior Policy

As a School we have recently adopted a junior policy, mainly within Swimming and all other major Sports.
Junior Policy is based on the simple Biblical Principle, "Train up a CHILD in the way he or she SHOULD GO and when they are older they will not depart from it". Early training in swimming has been the heartbeat of the school for many years. Efforts are being implemented by the Sports Department to have at Least 70% of all children swimming in the deep end by the end of Grade 2 and 100% of the children swimming in the deep end by the end of Grade 3. Over the next couple of years we will see these goals becoming a reality.
With major Sport we have seen the introduction of Grade 3 Rugby, Hockey, Cricket and Netball. Our Grade 3 teams have been able to represent our school at several Tournaments. As MCS we hope to host similar tournaments to promote sports to children at an Early age.

Sports Tours

Mildlands Christian School has had the privilege of going on two significant Sports Tours quite recently. In 2011 MCS took two Rugby teams to the Dubai College Rugby Festival in The Capital City of the United Arab Emirates, Dubai. It was a life transforming experience and we continue to reap the benefits through our Colts Rugby Team that won 19 out of their 21 Fixtures in the second term of 2012.
In April 2012, our senior Girls Hockey Team went on Tour to Durban where they played 3 games with similar strength schools in the Republic of South Africa.
We plan to continue with Sports Tours and target destinations include: Botswana, Kenya, United Kingdom, Australia and the United States of America. Through Sports ANYTHING IS POSSIBLE.
